Update and some cuteness : )

Thank you for all of the many prayers sent up for Miss Paige in the last day! We felt them and they are appreciated. We got up early today and I have to say that Miss P. woke up as sassy as ever. My mom and I were/are nervous wrecks, but tried hard not to let it show. We got to Vanderbilt's Eye Institute early and eagerly awaited the appointment. Unfortunately, the news isn't as good as we had hoped. While we thought that she may have a cataract and were scared that's what it is, turns out that would have been the better scenario. Paige has massive scarring on her cornea. The doctor said that a cataract could have at least been removed. The extensive scarring was probably created by trauma at birth or a bacterial infection that went untreated as a baby. Since we didn't adopt Paige until she was 2.5, he said the damage had already been created. As for the cloudiness, there is something that is causing it to come to fruition now and that is what is in question.
We go back to another and more specific cornea specialist at the end of this month to determine what is the cause for the cloudiness in her eye. The doctor today proclaimed that she is legally blind in her eye and that he didn't know if it would be worth doing a transplant. That is what we are going to discuss with the specialist. He also couldn't 100% rule out cancer of the eye either. While he said he really doesn't think that is it, he wants to send her to "the best of the best" to make sure. Her good eye makes up for the bad eye and he said it has been doing all of the work all of these years and that is why she hasn't ever said anything about not being able to see...she just didn't know any better.
SO, please keep those prayers coming. We need them!
Good news, Miss Thang got some serious styling glasses! They will be ready in a week. Bad news (so she says), she has to wear them at all times (except for at dance and swimming). They are not exactly for vision, as the good eye is 20/40, but rather for protection for the good eye, as it is her only functioning eye.
I haven't posted pics of my girly in forever, so please oblige me a few...ummm, well... a lot!

Oh boy...not the news we all prayed for...but I am SO glad Paige is getting such fine medical care and that she has such a loving family. Paige looks as beautiful as ever (except with the big black glasses...but really...who DOES love those???). I will continue to pray and hope for a good outcome despite the final findings.

Best wishes,

Kate

Hi Missy,

I'm so sorry about the loss of vision in Paige's eye. I know it's news no one ever wants to hear. My twin sister lost her vision in her right eye at age 9 due to an accident. I know so well, how you are feeling for that loss of sight. Saftey glasses are a must. I'm sure she will have the cutest pair of glasses too.

How wonderful that you have the best of the best eye doctors right in your backyard.

I'll be keeping you all in my prayers.

Oh Missy...no this is not the answer I had prayed for either BUT I know God has His hand on Paige. I know you have told me that you have had trouble giving the Lord your worries. This is the time to go to His altar on your knees and let Him have control. I love you Missy and anything...anything...anything I can do for you and your family you just call. 214-551-3017 (my cell)
Big Hugs....XXXOOO

Missy,

I have been thinking of you and Paige since the moment I woke up. So sorry that the news what not what we had hoped or prayed for.

But...How wonderful for Paige to have the comfort of big sister, Mom and AG on a scary day like today!! And what a blessing to know that she will be in one of the best medical hospitals.

She looks absolutely darling in all the pictures! I love her style. She reminds me of the cute outfits that the 2 Two Chickadees wear and I always admire.

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers,
Your friend, Sylvia

Please take care of yourself. And if you want me to do some research I'd be happy to also.

Missy, I'm really sorry that the news wasn't better. (hugs!) But thank heavens that Paige can get "the best of the best" to treat her eye. And thank heavens she has such a loving and supportive mother and sister to hold her hand through all this.

Sorry the news wasn't better, but it sure sounds like the docs are taking good care of her and doing everything they can -- so that's good! Great photos of your beautiful sister! Will keep you all in my prayers.

Aww mannnnn, as Hannah would say...okay, so we need to be on our knees and that's okay. God is going to reveal something really good through this. Eye issue or not, your sweet girl rocks and we all just love her (and you and your family).

It will be okay and we will pray you through this. Missy, my favorite scripture in times of struggle or worry is, "For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand, and says to you, "Do not fear; I will help you."Isaiah 41:13 -- pure and simple.

The pictures are awesome as usual, could she please have a bad hair day or bad outfit day once in a while?? Nah, I don't think Paige is capable of that:)

Love, Hugs and tons of encouragement!
Heather

Oh Missy- we have been thinking and praying for Paige today (and always). I am sorry that you did not receive better news. This is so shocking and I can imagine that you are all emotionally drained. But it appears that little miss thing will be getting the very best medical care and I so hope that the glasses will help and protect her vision.
Please let me know if you need anything.
Love,
Kerry

Nuts! I too was hoping for something better. Good care...and with that and medical advancements...who's to say? We go through all of the "eye stuff" with my dad who has glaucoma and I'm pre-glaucomic. It's amazing the research that's being done on eyes!!

As for glasses...she'll be seriously adorable!

Take care :)
